Classes
Please note: Classes and one-on-one lessons have a completely different structure and levels. We may move a student who is registered for a class that does not match his/her skill level- both up and down.
Ages: At least 4 years old, and also based on skills mastered
If you are a returning student and had classses last year- Look at your pass-off sheet from last summer and you'll know what level your student is on. If you're not sure, email us and we'll look it up. hogansswim@yahoo.com
If you are a returning student and want classes instead of one-on-one- look at the chart below- it is a good indicator of where your student might be- No worries- if we discover your child should be in a higher or lower level dependent on their mastery of skills, we will move them where they fit best. However, you can email us a list of skills mastered, and we can tell you where to put them. hogansswim@yahoo.com
If you're new and have questions about which level to pick, pick the lower level or send us a message on Facebook or email us at hogansswim@yahoo.com Please be specific about what skills your student has mastered when emailing or Facebook messaging. See below for skills taught in each level.
Each child will progress through these classes at their own
rate. This means a child may be at one level for several sessions.
Each class member must participate in each skill, with the help of the teacher. Each skill must be mastered before a student will graduate to the next level.
Safety skills are taught at each level and must also be mastered before moving on.
Level 1 -
In order to pass level 1, the student needs to be able to
jump off the diving board in the deep and swim to the side on their own with
face in, arm overarm. Level 1 is a very important class, as it lays the
foundation for all strokes. We will work on blowing bubbles, which starts them
on the rhythmic breathing method. Next, we will work on gliding, arms straight
in front of them with the face in the water. All strokes begin with a form of
the glide. Then we start with the arm-over-the-arm process of the front crawl. We
will also learn back float with and without kicking. We practice jumping in and
swimming back to the wall and getting ourselves out of the water. Diving for
toys is a game we often play that helps teach control of their body.

Level 2
To pass level 2, students need to be able to swim across the short distance of the pool in the deep, on their front and back, with confidence and skill. Level 2 focuses on front and back glide, as well as front crawl and back crawl. We start rhythmic breathing, along with changing directions and turning over from front to back and back to front. We will begin working on more advanced strokes such as butterfly and breaststroke.

We dive regularly and discuss ideal diving conditions. We will begin fine-tuning strokes such as butterfly and breaststroke along with more individual expectations
